Root Canal Therapy

Are you tired of living with tooth pain?
At Young Smiles, we believe everyone deserves a healthy, pain-free smile. That’s why we offer compassionate and effective root canal therapy to save your natural teeth and restore your comfort.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a procedure performed to treat the inside of the tooth when its pulp becomes infected or inflamed. The pulp, located in the center of the tooth, contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When it becomes infected due to deep decay, trauma, or a crack in the tooth, it can lead to severe pain and swelling if left untreated.

Why is it important to save your natural tooth

In a root canal procedure, the pulp of the tooth (the living tissue inside) is removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated dental materials that restore the tooth to full function. Using root canal therapy not only preserves your natural tooth, extending its lifetime, restoring functionality and it also protects and preserves the jaw bone and other supporting tissues around the tooth. Wherever possible, saving your natural tooth will also save you from more pain and expense down the road.

There are a number of signs that suggest root canal therapy may be necessary:
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold.
  • Severe toothache.
  • Red or swollen gums near the tooth.
  • Discoloration of the tooth.
  • An abscess (or pimple) on the gums.
  • Pain radiating to head of neck.
  • Pain during change in posture.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

A root canal treatment usually requires one or two office visits and is performed by either a dentist or an endodontist. Here is how we perform your root canal:

Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

During your first visit, we’ll conduct a thorough examination, including digital X-rays, to assess the condition of your tooth and determine if root canal therapy is necessary. The doctor may prescribe an antibiotics to help control infection and inflammation which generally causes toothache. Reducing this inflammation in advance reduces pain during the procedure.

Root Canal Treatment Process

Root canal therapy is typically completed in two to three visits, depending on the complexity of the case. When we’re ready to perform the root canal, we will patiently numb your tooth. Once you’re comfortable,  the dentist will gently remove the infected pulp which was causing you pain, clean and disinfect the root canal, and seal it to prevent further infection. Following root canal therapy, you may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity, which can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Tooth Restoration + Crown

Following the root canal procedure, the roots are filled with a biocompatible material to seal off any remaining space and prevent future infection. Once the tooth is stabilized, we restore its structure with tooth-colored filling material, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics. Finally, the tooth is meticulously prepped to receive a crown, which adds an extra layer of reinforcement, ensuring its longevity and strength for years to come. This comprehensive approach to restoration guarantees not only the preservation of your natural tooth but also the restoration of your confident smile.

This is a new dental home for me. The doctors are awesome, friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The front desk staff makes you feel right at home immediately when you walk in the door. Everything was on time. They can provide all my dental needs. My kits are doing braces there as well and they like it. I like their digital scanner for my impression very much, so I don’t have to take sticky tray in my mouth anymore which gags me. Overall, it is always a fantastic experience that is super easy for anyone who works or lives in that area.

My initial appointment was an emergency one and I expected "emergency" treatment. Much to my surprise, my treatment was considerate, unhurried and comprehensive. The staff was hospitable and very considerate of my needs. At the conclusion of the appointment I was given detailed information regarding my future dental needs. Upon returning to get the crown for my tooth, I received excellent service resulting in a crown that matches my other teeth perfectly. I was in need of a new dental service based on my previous one no longer being in my network. I have found one in Dr. Qing Yang and associates at 43rd and Walnut Streets.
