Dentures

Dentures

Dentures are custom-made appliances designed to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. They help improve chewing, speaking, and overall facial aesthetics. They are made from durable materials that mimic the look and feel of natural teeth and gums.

Did you know that around one-quarter of adults over the age of 65 are missing all of their teeth?

Types of Dentures At Young Smiles Family Practice, we offer different types of dentures to meet your specific needs:

  • Full Dentures: Used when all teeth in the upper or lower jaw are missing. These dentures rest on the gums and are held in place by suction or adhesive.
  • Partial Dentures: Ideal for patients who still have some natural teeth. These dentures are attached to existing teeth with metal clasps or precision attachments.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: Provide added stability by anchoring to dental implants. This option offers a more secure fit and improved function.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DENTURES?

Proper care and maintenance of your dentures are essential for their longevity and your oral health and to ensure they remain clean, comfortable, and effective. Follow these guidelines to maintain your dentures and oral health:
To care for your dentures at home:
    1. Remove Dentures Overnight:
Take your dentures out before bed to give your mouth a chance to rest and prevent irritation.

    2. Soak Dentures Properly:
Soak your dentures in warm water with a denture cleanser to remove plaque and stains. If your dentures have metal clasps, use only warm water to avoid damage.

    3. Do Not Soak in Hot Water:
Hot water can warp your dentures, affecting their fit and comfort.
    4. Keep Dentures Moist:
When not wearing your dentures, keep them in water to prevent them from drying out and warping.

    5. Clean Your Mouth:
With dentures removed, gently brush and massage your gums with a soft toothbrush or a finger wrapped in a clean, damp cloth. If using a toothbrush, run it under warm water to soften the bristles if they feel too harsh on your gums.

    6. Brush Natural Teeth:
If you have partial dentures, brush your natural teeth as usual to maintain overall oral health.

    7. Handle Dentures with Care:
When cleaning your dentures, hold them over a towel or a basin of water to prevent damage if they are dropped. and do not wrap dentures in towel, keep them in their case or in soaking agent when not being used. Use a soft-bristled denture brush to gently clean all surfaces of your dentures.

    8. Rinse After Eating:
Rinse your dentures with water after meals to remove food particles and prevent plaque buildup.
